It could be used that way, though it may depend on what the privacy settings are for it. I'd hope that it would be safer for those that choose to not share information with anyone that is not a friend. But, you never know, especially considering today's announcements from F8.
Maybe. It was one of the things I was thinking about when I posted the question. It's probably why I end up sending them individual messages. I figure I can say a lot more to the person that way, especially if they're a really close friend.
I just wish them a happy birthday on their wall. Simple, easy, fun.
As a side note: People really should think twice about having their birthdays listed publicly online. It's information that can be used in identity theft.

It’s an interesting thing to think about.
Do you post a birthday greeting, congratulations, or best wishes on someone’s wall or do you try to personalize it and send it as a message?
I was just wondering how people approaching talking with their friends virtually. I’m hoping that some will decide to share their answers below in the comments section.
