Everybody’s got hard and fast rules about managing a community. I’ve just got some anecdotal advice on the topic as I continue looking back at the last four years online.
Perhaps the idea of sharing ideas isn’t new, but the need to coax them out of people seems to be. Have we become too guarded with our thoughts? Do we seem to be more concerned about the credit instead of it being done?
Perhaps the best thing for institutions of higher learning to do as we look at the expanding role of digital tools is to help people learn a little more about how we’re actually supposed to digest it in the first place. In case you’re wondering, this is my first contribution to the recently relaunched Carnival of Journalism (in preparation for a conference in April at RJI).
The glimpses we get online are only a glimpse. It’s important to remember if we start to rely on these virtual tools too much.
